Car Audio Security's Modified Subaru Impreza WRX STi
If you’re a regular car show attendee, you know that at every event there’s a section dedicated to audio. From big bass lines to standard cars with amazing installs, there’s always plenty to check out and admire. But recently, while having a wander around, we stumbled upon something that for a moment took our attention away from audio. Sitting amongst the vans filled with subs was this Subaru Impreza WRX, and while at first we thought someone had parked in the wrong spot, only after a glimpse at the plate did we realise this fine looking car is in fact packing some serious audio too.
Now, Car Audio Security is one of the biggest audio outlets in the business, and with a team of around 20 staff members, cool car ideas were bound to be floating around. So it was no surprise when their newest demo car had the slickest lines, massive amounts of lows and essentially wouldn’t be out of place on one of those famous American stance blogs.
And internally, things get equally impressive. Not only is it packed out with the latest Infinity gear, a peek in the back will catch you a glimpse of the five grand monster JBL Crown a6000GTi amplifier! If you’re at a show, be sure to go over and have a look, and if not, take a trip to Hayes and pop into Car Audio Security’s state of the art showroom to check out the car in all its glory.
Being purely a demo car it wasn’t set up for either SQ or Drag, it was purely to showcase what’s on offer and what can be done. It was only by coincidence the set-up turned out to be quite the crowd pleaser too! Upfront, the Kenwood DNX720 BT is the source of all the noise, while in the front and rear doors are four pairs of Infinity Perfect 6.1 components to kick out plenty of treble.
With the back seats removed, all the focus has to be on the rear bench build which not only houses another set of Infinity components, but the party piece of the whole car: five grand’s worth of JBL Crown A6000GTI amplifier. This amp solely powers the two 12-inch JBL w12 subwoofers in the boot with serious results! In the boot also lay two hidden Infinity Reference 4 channel amplifiers as well a pair of Infinity Perfect 5.1 speakers, cunningly positioned into the graphite grey fibreglass build. It’s a lot of gear for a car of this size, but at full chat it does what it’s designed to do… pull in the crowds.
From factory, the Impreza is hardly groundbreaking for interior design with its cheap plastics and cloth interiors. To liven things up and add a touch of class, it was best to start from scratch. While the rear seats were removed to make way for a huge rear bench build, and the door cards were redesigned to take the numerous 6-inch components.
With the build in place, small touches like new interior lighting and the etched back-lit perspex were added to the doors, before the build and door cards were both finished in black Alcantara with grey stitching. Attention was then turned to the Recaro front seats, which were retrimmed in black Alcantara with grey leather inserts and an Infinity logo sewn for extra detail. Elsewhere the interior plastics and parts of the build were finished in a graphite grey for that finishing touch.
At first glance, Car Audio Security’s Impreza hardly strikes you as an audio car. In fact when we first saw it, we were amazed at the way this thing actually looks! The styling plan was always to keep it simple, and seeing as though the car was already spec’d up with the full Prodrive package from exhaust upgrade to front splitter when it left the factory, it just needed a unique twist to finish it off.
At first the crew updated the rear lights and added a full set of custom WRC style graphics to grab people’s attention. Soon after that the boys ordered up a set of 9.5x18-inch Gold Rota Grids with a stretched Falken tyre combo. With the wheels bolted on, it soon became clear that standard ride height wasn’t going to cut it, so a set of BC coilovers were ordered and fitted with amazing results. While amongst hardcore Scooby owners, lowering a car this much is sacrilege, when it looks this good, who actually cares?
